Product Review: Lancôme Grandiose Mascara

I had Lancome's Grandiose mascara on my 'mascaras to buy list' for ages, and thought it was time to bite the bullet and buy the mascara that every beauty enthusiast on the internet has been talking about since it was released.

My initial reaction was 'oh my God why did I buy this?!' This is only because it really takes a while to get the hang of using.  In theory, the 'swan-neck' wand should be a good idea. The aim is to create full and even lashes effortlessly, as the high precision brush can grab lashes close to the roots to perfectly fan them out. It is also meant to adapt to suit different eye shapes. All this is amazing and to be honest i'm surprised it hasn't been done before, however, you know what they say about things that seem to good to be true... they probably are! And at least to begin with I couldn't see what the fuss was about. I was so frustrated with it when I first started using it, especially as it made more of a mess on my face than normal. Once I practiced a bit though, I definitely began to see the appeal.

After using it for a few weeks I actually really liked it. It gives a tonne of thickness and volume, and is super black. Often with mascaras, I find that they aren't that black. This one however, seriously is.

I also find that it applies with just one coat. Now, being slightly lash obsessed I rarely go with just one coat, but for a low key makeup day, I would get away with one coat with no problem.

I do have a few downsides to this mascara, besides the initial struggle. Firstly, I find it transfers fairly quickly, especially under my eyes. However, this is something I struggle with, with most mascaras because of my extremely oily skin type. If this is something you rarely suffer with, I doubt it'll be an issue for you, however if it is a problem for you, it might be something to keep in mind.

The second issue is a big one! You'll have to bear with me while I try and explain, but you know when you take the wand out the tube there is that resistance/suction? Well, on this mascara, that suction has stopped working, meaning that all the product comes out on the wand and makes a complete gloopy mess everywhere. If I hadn't had it for so long I would take it back, but I think it's a bit late now.

I would really recommend this if you are are bit of a mascara fiend, because it is very good. The picture below is the mascara when it was running out, so you can imagine how good it is when brand new. However, there are definitely mascaras on the high street which are just as good, much more affordable, and far less faffy!!

My number one tip if you do buy this, is just don't give up on it straight away, and it's definitely a case of practise makes perfect.

And of course it is Lancome, so is fairly pricey at £25!
