Album Review: Zayn 'Mind of Mine'

After a very public split from One Direction, so he could be a normal guy, Zayn very quickly got bored and decided he wasn’t ready to give up on music just yet. So with that, the world patiently waited, the critics had their pens at the ready, and the Directioners had their pocket money in hand, all waiting for Zayn to drop his debut album.

It was a big risk deciding to go solo, so quickly, and whilst One Direction were still very much around. People had their doubts, waiting for a mediocre album to come, which lets be honest, not many people cared about. However, when he released his debut single ‘PILLOWTALK’, people quickly began to pay attention. The song was super catchy and actually really good, and even if you didn’t like it, you would still be caught singing it because every radio station or shop had it playing. There was no getting away from it.

And then a few months later he released his debut album ‘Mind of Mine’. I’m not going to lie, I was definitely skeptical and has no intention on buying it. Then, I listened to the preview of the songs on iTunes, and completely changed my mind.

It has a much more grown up sound to it than One Direction; in fact, it’s a completely different sound altogether. I guess that’s one of the reasons he left though, because they weren’t making the type of music he wanted to make. This is definitely an R&B/Pop album, with a really cool feel to it. ‘Vibey’ is the word I keep wanting to use, but I’m pretty sure ‘vibey’ is an adjective which doesn’t exist. I’m sure you get what I mean though!

I seriously recommend this album. Don’t think it’s just for One Direction fans, because it’s really not. Don’t even really go off Pillow Talk, because I would say that’s probably the most ‘pop’ song off the album. Listen to the preview’s on iTunes and you might quite like it.  Plus is got to number 1 in 12 countries, including the UK and US, so he's got to be doing something right.

My favourite tracks off the album:
Pillow talk
Fool For You
Like I Would

Buy the album here.
