TV Addiction: Prison Break

I definitely have phases when it comes to TV shows. My current favourites are The Following and Scandal. However the one that will always remain my ultimate favourite TV show for the rest of my life is without a shadow of a doubt Prison Break.

I first watched it about 4 or 5 years ago when my friend introduced it to me and I watched every series in about 3 months (or maybe even less)! I knew what it was because my dad watched it every week when it first aired in 2005. However when I did eventually watch it, I became completely hooked.

I'm sure you can imagine my excitement when in October last year the first two series appeared in the Sky box sets channel. As my sister had never watched the first series we watched it in just a couple of weeks, which I think is fair to say fueled our obsession further.

It then disappeared and was replaced by another cult classic TV series. I couldn't help but notice however that it is now back. Every episode from all four series! That is why I'm writing this post - to persuade you to stop what ever your doing and watch it.

Now before I get everyone's hopes up, as far as I am aware it is only available on Sky. So if you don't have Sky TV you might want to stop here. However saying that, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find it online somewhere or do what I did when I first watched it - go old school and rent it from the local library.

There is absolutely no doubt that the first series was the best. By a million miles. And that series three isn't as good as the others, but stick with it, you won't regret it.

The thing which I think I love the most is the incredible characters. There are a group of main characters which all have their own story. And considering they are mostly all prisoners you'll be surprised just how much you'll love them.

I have two favourites. The first is T-Bag (yes that really is his name), which I feel a bit weird saying considering what his character is actually like. The second is Michael Schofield, who is the main character and mastermind behind the escape. I don't want to go into to much detail why he's my favourite, but come back and tell me after watching just one episode that you're not madly in love with him. You won't be able to! The actor who plays him 'Wentworth Miller' has a really interesting story too. He is such a great actor, I which he was in more things.

I say the characters are the best thing about it, however the storyline is incredible too. I seriously take my hat off to the writers. The plot isn't too complicated, but has enough going on that it makes you think. There are some bits which are a bit gross and gory, but the storyline is so gripping and tense, that you feel yourself escaping into.

I call posts like this 'TV Addictions', but normally just take the word addiction with a pinch of salt. This time I'm seriously not joking when using the word addicted. You'll be hooked from the very beginning.

Although I do wish it ended slightly differently, if you only watch one programme ever again, please make it be this. Prison Break is solely responsible for my love of prison films and TV shows.

However, if you are in the midst of exam season and are on study leave, I advise not to start watching it. It's a very slippery slope once you begin!

Watch on Sky box sets now or buy the box sets here.
