Book Review: Zoe Sugg 'Girl Online'

I'm going to be honest. The only reason I got this book is because of the author 'Zoe Sugg'. I'm a fan of her YouTube channel, 'Zoella', so bought the book, without even reading the back! So, I had absolutely no idea what Girl Online was going to be about when I started reading it.

I did however have a few presumptions about what I thought the book was going to be like. That was, from the title as well, that there would be a lot of similarities between the characters in the book and Zoe's life. Also that it would be written for the viewers of her YouTube channel.

As far as I am aware the book in no way reflects Zoe's life. However it is definitely written for her viewers. If you do watch her videos you will probably like this book.

It is an easy read, teen fiction. A boy meets girl story that teenagers can understand. It was a little cliche and predictable at times but I think you'll finish it very satisfied with the fairytale ending to the teenage love story. Because of this I'm sure you can imagine it was a little cheesy as times, but she kind of gets away with it, as she never claims it to be anything other then what it is.

I found it took me quite a long time to read. Not because it was particularly hard or difficult to follow, but if I'm being honest it wasn't the most gripping book ever. Great beginning. Great end. Somewhere in the middle though it lost me a bit. However I am definitely not the intended audience. I think it is aimed for the younger teenage demographic.

As far as the rumours go about her not writing it, I'm not that bothered. It was her first book and so many authors have ghostwriters. I think it has been something she has been very open about so I'm not fussed.

I'm interested to see what she'll do with the second book. Whether she'll stick to the same type of plot, or if she's going to change it up.

The other thing I love it is is a hardback book. Minor detail but something I find much more enjoyable about a book!
