Product Review: Topshop's 'The Concealer Palette'

When I first saw this little shiny palette I was drawn to it like a magpie. It seemed like the perfect 'no makeup' makeup concealer, which I was desperately on the hunt for.

I'm a big fan of Topshop makeup, except for their skin based products. I got sent a sample of the foundation a while ago and really didn't like it (see my review here). However I am glad to say this palette is much better.

I'll begin with what I don't like. I don't think this is a product if you aren't that into makeup as I don't think you'll see the use in it. It takes a while to apply and isn't great if you want a fuller coverage look, as it gets quite cakey, quite easily.

As far as the shades go, there is only the one palette on offer, therefore no selection of shades at all. This is almost perfect for me, but if your skin tone is much lighter or darker than mine it won't look right.

There is a yellow shade to counteract redness, beige shade for under eye circles and a pink shade for blemishes and spots, as well as a translucent powder. I've always thought this was a bit of a gimmick but actually this really does work.

The packaging is really great. It comes with a great sized mirror which is always a bonus for me. However, the outside is also mirrored, so gets very dirty very quickly with smudges and fingerprints. This isn't really a problem for me, but will bother a lot of people. It also comes with a really rubbish applicator, almost like the ones that come with drugstore eyeshadow palettes. I like to apply it either with my fingers or blend with a Real Techniques setting brush.

It is really creamy which is great, but as I said has to tendency to get a bit cakey. The tip is not to apply it too think, and just blend it out - a small amount goes a long way. I also really love the powder which comes with it. It is a translucent powder with a really great coverage. It covers all unwanted shiny bits really well and quickly, as well as staying put for a long time too.

I love this for 'no makeup' makeup days, and although it took a while for me to get into it, I actually quite like it. Although I quite like it, I don't think many people will. It is a bit of a hassle for not much difference.
